Lungs

Listening to JPop music, I rediscovered Michelle Branch today in a restaurant. I needed to see my friend after work. She helped calm my nerves but I am still edgy. I miss being young and innocent, without bills to pay and rent to budget for. I miss having snowball fights and making snowmen at recess.

What else is there?

Tonight
Originally uploaded by G. Lewis
I saw an old picture of us together. It was my favourite photo for a long time. Seeing it tonight really hit home that I had loved you. That you had hurt me. That I had moved on. I'm on the fringe of something really good but I had to sting myself a little to snap back to the earth and remember to protect myself a little more again. You taught me a lot, not everything I learned was good though. I'd like to thank you for raping my soul's purity. I'm a better person for it.

Engagement

After some paperwork and a few days of editing, I can now finally publish these photos to my blog. This is an engagement session I did for a very sweet local couple. This is the largest photo set that I've done to-date and I am proud not only of the set itself and the images that comprise it, but also proud of how much I have grown business-wise and personality-wise, and how my photography has developed since. I can now identify my style and my approach thanks to these photos. I do consider a few select photos to be some of my best work to-date and am happy to finally be able to share these with the community.

I'm starting another photo set. It's going to be a display of daily routines. Very simple. Everyone takes a photo of themselves a day for a year, all that sort of thing. I don't want to do a 365 project. I want to expose how people live. I'll start with myself.

Body Lines 1

This is an experiment on my part, I want to try and create a series of abstract-style images using the lines from various parts of the body, making use of shadows and highlights to emphasize different lines. Very good lighting practice and experimentation.

I was looking at a recent family photo I took before we went off to my cousin's wedding and I am the only person in my family that knows how to smile "properly". I love my smile. I also look so much like my mother.

Remember when you were a kid and you were curious about everything, always stopping to look and getting lost in your observations and thoughts- not noticing that mom and dad have walked a good 50 paces ahead of you without noticing you've trailed off?

Then you go to school, they educated you and then by the end of it all you feel like you know all there is to know- then you discover your greatest tool for learning has been brutally maimed and you have to tend very closely to it to bring your inquiring mind back to health.

I'm still mending those wounds.

The power went out today. I played pool with my father. We didn't converse at all. Is it really that difficult for me to relate to him? I played piano by candlelight. Playing in the dark has a funny way of making every note you hit so silent.

Shot through my bedroom window. At this point in time, I just don't know what I see outside that window. I grew up here, and it's coming time for me to leave. What does home look like now? What will I see through my bedroom window when I move?

Will it feel this safe?
